U O Thats what the asian doctor told my 82 year old aunt when she came to him complaining of issues commonly suffered at that age. I got a healthy dose of what its like to get old in these days. I visited a 90 year old lodge brother today, condemned by his wife to an Assisted Living Memory Care type facility. He was having trouble in one leg and had suffered a fall or two in his home. He also was having some memory issues, but not all that bad. So now he is imprisoned within the facility, while his chippy wife continues her Mercedes convertible lifestyle unimpeded. He is in a 'W x 25' long room. A bed, a chair, and cable tv. Not sure when the memory care takes place. hard to believe a guy would let himself be rooked into a deal like this... |

The bottom line is, you better have money or a caring family or both if you expect to make it through your Golden years in the manner to which you have become accustomed...

All the doors are locked and alarmed, so theres no getting in or out without staff authority. I guess that keeps the inmates from wandering off. There is no kitchen in his room, no microwave, no fridge, nothin...I dont think you are supposed to have food of any kind in your room. And if you want ice, you gotta go ask staff. Guess they dont want the inmates choking on anything without them knowing... So, its important to have your kids like you, assuming you have kids, so that when you get old they dont just dump you in some oldfolks home and spend all your money on improving their lifestyle.

This is where you find out if you have any friends that give a shit about you. His Old Lady might figure that if nobody shows up to see you at the old Folks Home, you may as be already dead...

If I can just get 1 guy a day from my organization to commit to visiting this chap once a month, I would be a hero. That is my goal.

So 3 of us went to visit the Brother. There was a pool table just outside his confines, so we took him out and teamed up. Despite being a rightie, and having a patch over his right eye, he managed to shoot quite well for a man of 90+ years. and it made him (and us) oh so happy.

If I could get a woman to go with me to visit him, that would be cool. He's Fallbrook and 1960.
